The dancers were filmed using hidden cameras and only they could hear music, funnelled to them via tiny earpieces. Close friend Rashida Jones directed the music video, for which Bareilles and a number of others break out into spontaneous fits of dance in public spaces – streets, malls, a plaza, a gym.


Bareilles wrote Brave with Jack Antonoff - lead guitarist of the band Fun., co-founder of LGBTQI organisation Ally Coalition and current boyfriend of Lena Dunham - in a small writing room in Times Square, in New York City, where Bareilles lives.
